OCTOBER NEWS
Here we are in OCTOBER already. The summer camping season has all but disappeared, and you may wish that one more weekend would be nice so you could take one last shot at a holiday in the tent, fifth wheel or motor home! With freezing weather upon us, it was with regret that we closed down the fish cleaning stations and shut off the water at Graner Park on September 23. It was 80 degrees that day and Tim & Cleon were happy to be doing that work, rather then when it is freezing cold and you get wet and have to finish the job. We will leave the boat docks in the river for about 2 more weeks, and then they will have to come out. The last couple years we have made park benches and placed them at strategic places in the county park sites – such as along the river bank at Graner, Fort Rice, and on the bank and hill at Sweetbriar. If you would like to see one of these benches at a favorite site in Morton County Parks in the future call my office at 667-3363 and let us know. It is finally a reality – stripping the bottom of the dam site at Harmon Lake has started! The big green machines are stripping and stock piling the six or so inches of the bottom area. The planning and designing has been in the works for over 20 years and finally it will happen. The official groundbreaking ceremony will be OCTOBER 7, 2003 at the Harmon Lake Site. It will happen at 1:00pm with several speakers lined up including Senator Byron Dorgan who has helped get financing for the project. Our own Morton County Park Board Member Richard L Baron will also have a few comments. It looks to be a great milestone day for recreation in Morton County. Hunting season will be in full swing in October and fishing is still available. Please play it safe when in the field when pursuing the wily ring neck and the ducks and geese. Remember I need all the readers I can get! So long until next month from Morton County Parks.
